Singular Intent

» 24 August 2006

If I knew just one singular intent
I'd let it hold me tight
I'd be consumed within its power and might
No call could make me bend
I'd fight and fend with all my narrow, lightskinned life.
Instead I let the best in me relent
Subsumed beneath the rubble of an ordinary life
I'm washed out by the need to never be misspent
Devalued clear, extraordinary needs
To pay for good-done deeds and other peoples' rent.

If I were just one singular intent
On holding out on what would draw me tight
To let my line loose to another singular consent
One love to end it all
I'd fall and fall and all my sheer and slenderframe
Would be so tempered tame

One day I'll leave the rest behind
And concentrate on living life and be resigned
To not be all but just be all that I can be
And not be perfect, rather that I should be
Burden-free.
